Our Work

When the opportunity doesn't exist, we build it.

BBMGOS produces original South African theatre while the platform grows. Every production employs backstage theatre professionals from the database, generates formal credits, and proves what this community can do when properly supported.

Production

Misplaced Shoes

A play by Bokang Ntsutle. Set in a small town in the Free State, it follows two best friends, Ayanda and Chantel, whose lives turn upside down when they swap roles. A comedic, heartfelt look at identity, friendship, and modern South African life, from Black tax to the pressures of family and tradition. Funny, moving, and built to make audiences ask what they would do in someone else's shoes.

The premiere run.

BBMGOS's debut production. Misplaced Shoes premiered at the National Arts Festival in 2024, marking Bokang Ntsutle's first work as a playwright and director and the Guild's first proof of concept: backstage crew sourced, work delivered, credits recorded.

The production was featured on national television, with a segment of the play broadcast during the Festival.

The Stage is Yours

An open call for South African artists.

An open call for South African creatives between 18 and 35, built around the theme of social inequality. Applicants submitted self-taped auditions, and selected participants were placed into multidisciplinary groups to mentor one another and create original six-minute work together.

The programme paired participants with mentors and ran as a structured creation process from submission through to a finished group piece, giving emerging artists real collaborative experience and a credit to show for it.

Matsoho Rise: Crafting a New Theatre Legacy

A conversation on what the industry owes its next generation.

The inaugural Matsoho Rise event. Hosted at the Fountain Hotel in Cape Town and co-presented with Rainbow Arts Organisation, the evening brought together people already working in South African theatre and people trying to find a way in, for a direct conversation about what this industry owes the next generation of backstage talent.

Free, open to anyone, and built around practical information rather than inspiration alone. More Matsoho Rise events are planned as the Guild grows.

What's next

More work is in development.

BBMGOS is actively developing its next production. Every Guild production is a chance for backstage theatre professionals in the database to gain experience, build credits, and be part of original South African work.
