Finding an actor in South Africa is straightforward. Finding a set designer, a lighting operator, a costume technician, or a production manager is not. These professionals are skilled, trained, and ready to work. The infrastructure to connect them with the productions that need them simply does not exist.

"Stagehands" at BBMGOS means everyone who makes a theatre production possible from behind the curtain: playwrights, directors, producers, production managers, stage managers, set designers, scenic artists, set builders, lighting designers and operators, sound designers and operators, costume designers and makers, props coordinators, choreographers, intimacy coordinators, dialect coaches, vocal coaches, composers, musical directors, video and projection designers, technical directors, riggers, and general backstage crew.

BBMGOS produces original South African theatre work because the platform alone is not enough. While we grow the database and the productions that use it, we make our own work. Every production employs backstage professionals from the database, generates formal credits, and demonstrates what this community can do when properly supported.

We have already hosted Matsoho Rise, staged Misplaced Shoes, and run The Stage is Yours. There is more in development.
